ASBED Cooperative
We are ASBED Cooperative, a women-led rural cooperative near Marrakech. Meet our Berber women artisans, discover traditional Moroccan rug weaving, and try it yourself in a friendly, hands-on village experience.
About this experience
We invite you to our village, about 40 km from Marrakech, to spend a few hours with us and discover the traditional art of Moroccan rug weaving. When you arrive, we will welcome you with Moroccan tea and introduce you to our cooperative, our work, and our looms. We will show you how we prepare the wool and explain the traditional techniques we use to turn it into handmade Moroccan rugs. Then it’s your turn to try. One of our artisans will sit with you and guide you as you learn to weave on a small traditional loom prepared especially for visitors. You will have time to practice, make your own small woven piece, and take it home as a souvenir of your visit. After the weaving activity, we will share a homemade Moroccan meal together. You can sit with us, ask questions, talk about our work and everyday life, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of our rural village. This is a simple, hands-on experience where you can meet local women artisans, learn a traditional craft, and experience a little of everyday life in rural Morocco.

Arrival at the cooperative and a warm welcome with traditional Moroccan tea and sweets. While enjoying your tea, discover the history of Moroccan rugs, traditional symbols, colors and weaving traditions, and meet the women artisans of the cooperative.

Hands-On Rug Weaving Workshop
🧶 Hands-On Rug Weaving Workshop Take part in a hands-on weaving experience on a traditional loom. Learn about wool preparation, spinning and traditional weaving techniques, and create your own small piece with guidance from our women artisans. 🍽️ Traditional Moroccan Lunch After the workshop, enjoy a homemade Moroccan lunch and take some time to relax in the peaceful village surroundings. 🏡 Village Walk & Local Life Take a short walk through the village and discover the rural surroundings, local way of life and landscapes near the Atlas Mountains. 🚕 Return to Marrakech After the experience, depart from the village for a comfortable return to your accommodation in Marrakech.

- Transportation is not included in the workshop price. However, we can help arrange transportation from Marrakech to the cooperative and back upon request.
